Darkwind Vehicle Designer
This is the Trac instance for the Darkwind Vehicle Designer.
Current version is 3.0.0
- Split the saved designs into their own DB, which is saved in the user's Documents folder, to make it easier for users to update the Vehicle Data DB without losing saved designs
- On first run it should prompt to split any saved designs out
- Added a Notes field to the chassis table so users can record ... notes, i.e. handling, speed, etc., about ... each chassis
- Improved the look of many of the buttons for the Windows version
Version 2.0.0 --- not released
- Added fields to database for Darkwind:Tactical information
- Added ability to export designs as XML for importing to Darkwind:Tactical (not currently implemented on DW website)
- Re-organized armor entry fields to match order on DW website (to make the DW:T stuff easier)
- Added more info to database (Armor CR, Armor Weights, new weapons, new engines)
- Added info next to the Weapon combobox showing the selected weapon's bulk and weight so you don't have to add it to the vehicle to see these values
- Added ability to add ammo reloads to loadout list (available ammo is based on installed weapons)
Version is 1.9.3 with the following changes:
- Added ability to add items to the database. 'Add' button is below the main database list view.
Version 1.9.2 had the following changes:
- Fixed SQL error when moving back to the database page.
Version 1.9.1 had the following changes:
- Changed signature image slightly.
- Armor section in lower left corner now displays Total Armor in addition to Armor Grade
- The order of the armor numbers is: Front/Rear/Left/Right/Top/Bottom
- The shield icon in the top right corner shows the vehicle's Combat Rating. This is different than the image generated by Alo's web-based designer which shows total armor in this location.
- Armor section in lower left corner now displays Total Armor in addition to Armor Grade
Version 1.9.0 had the following changes:
- Added ability to make a 'signature image' for any saved design (based on Alo's very cool implementation via his web-based designer)
- This is available via the contextual (right-click) menu in the Saved Designs list
- Personal logos can be added - they will be scaled to 40x40 and placed in the bottom right corner of the created image.
- Fixed an error in Combat Rating calculation for saved designs
Version 1.8.0 had the following changes:
- Added fields to the chassis table in the DB for RollcageBulk and RollcageWeight since these are chassis specific (I didn't know this before)
- Adding a rollcage to your design will use the bulk and weight values from the DB now, rather than the hardcoded values (30 bulk, 0 weight, IIRC)
- The database has changed so the old database won't work with this version. I'll give some thought to having the application patch the database when stuff like this happens.
Version 1.7.2 had the following changes:
- Changed the weight per bulk number used for Private Documents (Docs) from 4 (incorrect) to 2 (correct)
Version 1.7.1 had the following changes:
- Fixed Available Seat calculation as it wasn't taking Loadout Bulk into consideration
Version 1.7.0 had the following changes:
- Added a "Load Design" contextual (right-click) menu item in the Saved Designs list that loads the selected design into the 'New Design' interface so loadout configurations can be tested without having to build a design from scratch.
- Changed the interface for adding Courier Packages. Now only prompts for Bulk, and does the math itself. Currently using the 4 lbs/bulk unit known for Drugs for all types (Drugs, Docs, Mail).
Version 1.6.0 had the following changes:
- Fixed issues with changing database field values. This should now work again
- Can now add courier packages to the Loadout list. A prompt will appear with entry fields for Bulk and Weight. Estimated range should adjust accordingly.
- The weight of courier packages is unknown, but I used 14.38/bulk unit, and I think it's pretty close (not sure how I came up with this number as it is way off)
Version 1.5.0 adds the following functionality:
- Can now add fuel containers to the Loadout list. Estimated range should adjust accordingly
Version 1.4.3 adds the following functionality:
- Database has changed to add the following:
- Weapon abbreviation field in the Weapons table (used in the new Loadout list)
- Reload weight and bulk fields in the Weapons table (used in the new Loadout list)
- Database records can be edited by double-clicking a record. An editing window will open allowing you to change any values as needed.
- Loadout list: allows users to work out a design's ammo and passenger loadout possibilities
- Design weapons list now displays the weapon's reload weight and bulk
The database available for download has as many weapon weights and combat ratings, chassis armor combat ratings, and armor weights as I knew as of 2008-11-01. The added ability to edit the database records should mean that if you know what the values should be you can add them yourself, and don't have to wait for me to figure them out, add them, and make an update available.
If you do know some of the missing numbers I'd appreciate it if you would let me know (marrkos at graymattercomputing dot com) so I can update my copy of the database, and make it a more complete reference.

The OS X and Windows versions should be stable. Not sure about the Linux version as I don't have a good way to test it.
